Credit Manager and Collections Resume: Structure, Examples and Mistakes to Avoid

Highlighting receivables control, risk prevention and negotiation on a credit manager resume.

By Équipe FinanceCV

A credit manager protects the company's cash: deciding who gets credit, monitoring receivables and collecting what is owed. To convince a finance department, your resume must speak numbers, risks avoided and cash collected. Here is how to structure it.

The credit manager's role in the company

Credit management covers the whole life of a receivable: customer risk analysis before the sale, credit limits, invoicing and reminders, dispute handling, and amicable or legal collection. The AFDCC 🔗, the French association of credit managers, is the professional reference and offers certified training such as collections officer 🔗 (in French).

A recruiter therefore reads your resume with three questions in mind: do you cut bad debt, do you speed up collection, and do you preserve the commercial relationship? Your whole resume should answer them.

Structuring a credit manager and collections resume

An effective order, on one page (two if you have over ten years of experience):

  1. Title and hook: "Credit manager, 6 years' experience, portfolio of 2,000 B2B customers, DSO reduced from 62 to 48 days".
  2. Experience: the most recent in detail, with scope (number of customers, revenue covered, countries) and results.
  3. Education and certifications.
  4. Tools: ERP (SAP, Oracle), receivables management tools, credit insurance, advanced Excel.
  5. Languages, notably for international roles.

Always state the scope: a portfolio of 300 SME accounts and one of 20 key accounts do not require the same skills.

Quantified results to highlight (DSO, collection rate)

Indicators are your best argument. Here are phrasings to adapt with your real figures:

  • "Reduced DSO from 58 to 47 days in 18 months on €40M of revenue."
  • "Cut receivables over 90 days by 35% through a new tiered reminder process."
  • "92% amicable collection rate on a portfolio of 1,200 overdue invoices."
  • "Implemented customer scoring that halved bad-debt losses."
  • "Collected €1.8M of litigated receivables in cooperation with bailiffs and lawyers."

Legal and commercial skills to emphasize

The job sits at the crossroads of finance, law and sales. Highlight:

  • Legal skills: retention-of-title clauses, statutory payment terms, insolvency proceedings, payment orders, guarantees.
  • Commercial skills: negotiating payment schedules, working with sales teams, saying no without breaking the relationship.
  • Analytical skills: reading balance sheets, scoring, aged-balance monitoring, management reporting.
  • Human qualities: firmness, diplomacy, composure in tense situations.

Tie each skill to a concrete fact. "Good negotiator" says nothing; "negotiated 45 repayment plans without losing a customer" is verifiable.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Listing tasks ("customer reminders") without a quantified result.
  • Omitting scope: without customer numbers or volumes, the recruiter cannot place your level.
  • Ignoring trade vocabulary: DSO, aged balance, outstanding exposure, credit limits, matching.
  • An aggressive tone: a credit manager must also preserve the commercial relationship.
  • A dense layout: a block of text with no hierarchy is skipped within seconds.

⚠️ Warning: don't claim figures you cannot justify in an interview. A DSO is easy to check.
