Cover Letter and Interview for NEOMA AST: the Method

The file makes you eligible; the letter and interview decide your admission to NEOMA. Complete method for building your case in front of the ECRICOME Tremplin panel.

By Équipe FinanceCV

NEOMA Business School admits several hundred candidates every year through parallel admission via the ECRICOME Tremplin exam, one of the most competitive routes into a Grande École program. The academic file makes you eligible; it is the cover letter, then the oral interview, that decide admission. Here is the method for building both.

What the NEOMA panel expects

NEOMA recruits through parallel admission via two distinct ECRICOME Tremplin exams depending on the candidate's level: Tremplin Bac+2 (AST1) 🔗, open to holders or future holders of a BTS, a BUT2 or a Licence 2, and Tremplin Bac+3 (AST2) 🔗, for Licence 3, Bachelor's or Bac+4 profiles. The official NEOMA page on parallel admissions 🔗 states that the school opens 225 places in Tremplin 1 across its Reims and Rouen campuses, with a comparable number of places in Tremplin 2.

At the oral, the panel - usually made up of a teacher and a working professional - is no longer assessing the candidate's academic level: the file and the aptitude test (TAGE MAGE) have already done that. It evaluates three things: how well the candidate's background aligns with the choice of parallel admission, the clarity of the intended professional project, and genuine knowledge of NEOMA beyond its reputation - its teaching through majors, its multiple campuses, its international footprint.

💡 Before the letter, the file: our guide on the NEOMA parallel admission resume details the expected structure and the pitfalls that weaken a file even before the interview.

Building your letter step by step

An effective NEOMA cover letter is best built around four movements, which also structure the interview that follows.

1. An opening built on a specific fact, never a formula. Avoid "I have always been passionate about business." Open with a concrete, dated element - an internship, an extracurricular project, a professional encounter - that triggered your interest in a management career.

2. Coherence of your background. Explain why your BTS, BUT or Licence brought you here, and what that path - often more unconventional than a preparatory class - genuinely gave you: hands-on experience, earlier independence, an already-engaged specialization.

3. Why NEOMA specifically. Base this on a concrete element of the program - a final-year major, an academic partnership, the international dimension of the two campuses - rather than its ranking, which the panel already knows better than you do.

4. Your professional outlook. Close with a project precise enough to be credible: a targeted sector, possibly a function, grounded in a real experience or conversation rather than an abstract aspiration.

Questions asked at the interview

Recurring questions in the NEOMA ECRICOME Tremplin motivation interview fall into four categories.

On your background: "Introduce yourself in three minutes"; "Why this BTS/BUT/Licence rather than a preparatory class?"; "What was the biggest difficulty in your path so far?"

On your motivation for NEOMA: "Why NEOMA rather than another ECRICOME school?"; "What do you know about the campus you are applying to?"

On your professional project: "What job are you aiming for after the program?"; "What major or international exchange are you considering?"

On your personality: "Tell me about a failure"; "What would your classmates or internship colleagues say about you?"

Example of a structured answer

"Why NEOMA?"

A weak answer sticks to the school's ranking or reputation. A strong answer combines three levels: a specific program element (a major, a dual degree, an academic chair), a lived element (a conversation with a current student or alumnus, an open house), and an explicit link to the candidate's professional project.

"I'm aiming for a career in digital marketing applied to retail. I spoke with two students in NEOMA's Marketing major who confirmed how much weight is given to company projects starting in the second year of the program. Coming from a BUT in Sales Techniques, this is exactly the strategic and international dimension I'm missing today to move toward a product manager role."

"Why this change of direction after your BTS/BUT?"

The instinct to avoid is presenting parallel admission as making up for a "failure" in a preparatory class or a regretted initial choice. Instead, own your path as a coherent trajectory: what the BTS or BUT concretely gave you (rigor, hands-on experience through internships, independence) justifies your application just as much as a preparatory class would for another profile.

📊 A transferable method: the same preparation logic applies to other ECRICOME schools - see our guide on the cover letter and interview for ESSEC's AST exam if you are applying to several exams in parallel.

Mistakes that cost candidates the interview

  • Reciting the cover letter word for word. The panel has already read it; the interview is meant to go deeper, not repeat it.
  • A vague professional project. "Working in business" or "becoming a manager" is not enough to convince a panel that has heard the same phrase dozens of times that day.
  • A letter that is obviously recycled from another ECRICOME school. The panel immediately spots a poorly swapped reference or a motivation too generic to be specific to NEOMA.
  • Lack of preparation on the program's concrete details - available majors, campuses, gap-year options - which betrays a shallow application.
  • Neglecting the form of the file. A poorly formatted resume or a letter full of typos raises doubts about the candidate's rigor before they even enter the interview room.

This last point is the easiest to neutralize in advance: formatting should never eat into the time that should go toward preparing your arguments. That is exactly what FinanceCV automates - a well-structured, cleanly presented resume and cover letter, so that only the substance of your application makes the difference in front of the panel.
